Extraordinary Stories is a documentary series of short films featuring captivating stories unearthed from UEFA’s archives. They are astonishing tales of triumphant glories, obscure teams and fascinating individuals, which are both unimaginable and truly extraordinary.
Commissioned by UEFA TV and produced by Noah Media Group (creators of “Arsène Wenger: Invincible” and “Finding Jack Charlton”), four episodes have been produced to date and all are available to watch for free on UEFA’s website. Thinking Football features two of them.
The first tells the incredible story of Jimmy Hasty. Despite losing his left arm in a childhood accident, Jimmy led Dundalk FC to their first league title in 30 years. Tragically, in 1974, he was murdered by paramilitaries during ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland.
The second film is “Deserter: The Extraordinary Story of Miodrag Belodedici”. The documentary piece that retraces the steps of former European champion Belodedici, from his glory days with Steaua Bucharest and Red Star Belgrade up until his decision to flee Nicolae Ceaușescu’s Romania, a choice which saw the footballer sentenced to ten years in prison.
